GeoPALs (Earth Sciences)Lunch Time Sessions |
The lunch time sessions are run by third and fourth year students. They are designed to help you adapt to life at University and ask our current honours students questions about work in an informal environment.
Semester 1
Tuesday 17th November 2015, 1-2pm Lab 6307, JCMB
We will doing an ELE Practical help session. We will go over how to structure a report, how to reference properly and some advice on data quality. We will also have some of student's previous work to look over and point out good/bad bits 😊 Plus any other questions or suggestions people have.
Tuesday 10th November 2015, 1-2pm Lab 6307, JCMB
This session we will be practicing examining igneous hand specimens and thin sections - from granites to gabbros, diorites to dolerites, we will discuss the basics of mineralogy, texture and how samples relate to their geological context.
Tuesday 3rd November 2015, 1-2pm Lab 6307, JCMB
This session will focus on a range of hand specimens, from the magma chambers of Mull to the shallow marine of the Bahamas. Come along to gain an insight into how to identify basic igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks! The session will run from 1-2 in JCMB 6307. See you there!
Tuesday 19th October 2015, 1-2pm Lab 6307, JCMB
The session will cover further work on notebooks with regard to the upcoming Earth Dynamics assessed field trip.
There will also be an introduction to microscopes - How they work, basic optical properties, identifying basic minerals in thin section.
